Public Profiles
Every Prewrite writer has a profile page: a place to say who you are and show the stories you choose. It's yours to share. Prewrite has no directory to browse, and profiles aren't listed by search engines, so people find yours through its link.
Your Profile Page
To open it, click your name at the bottom of the side menu and choose Public profile.
Its address is prewrite.com/me/ followed by your custom URL, if you've set one (see Edit Profile), or your account's id.
The page has two parts:
- You: your profile picture, pen name, title and tagline, then your links, then About, Awards & Recognition, Favorite genres and Why I'm here.
- Your work: your Featured story and More stories, each with its cover, and how many times it's been viewed once it has views. Clicking one opens the story.
Visitors see only the parts of your About side that you've filled in. The Featured story heading always shows; with no public stories, visitors see No public stories yet.. On a phone, a tablet or a narrow window, the page has two tabs under your name: Work and About.
When you look at your own page, each empty section shows a prompt instead, such as Add a bio. Click it to open that field in Public Profile.
Share Your Profile
When you look at your own page, a bar across the top holds its controls. Only you see it.
- Public or Private: whether others can see the page. Click it to switch. A public page can be seen by anyone with the link; a private one only by you. Anyone else who opens a private page's link is told Profile not found.
- Copy link: copies the page's link, ready to paste into an email or a message.
- Share (the share button, on devices that can share): opens your device's share menu.
- Edit profile: opens Settings on Public Profile, where you change what the page shows. Your changes show on the page as soon as you save.
When you paste the link somewhere that shows previews, the preview shows your pen name, title, tagline and picture.
Stories on Your Profile
You choose which of your stories appear, and which one is featured, in Public Profile › My Work (see Edit Profile). Adding a story to your profile makes it shareable, so anyone with its link can read it.
A story that's locked, after a move to the Free plan, can't be on your profile (see Plans & Billing).
