Edit Profile

Your public profile is a page of your own at /me/ followed by your custom URL (or your account's id until you set one). It shows your picture, pen name, bio and links, and the stories you choose to feature. Public Profiles explains what visitors see there.

Open Your Profile Settings

You edit everything the profile shows in one place, the Public Profile screen of your settings:

  1. Click your picture at the foot of the left-hand menu (at the top of the screen on a phone) to open the account menu.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Choose Public Profile.

The account menu's Public profile takes you to your profile page itself. There, Edit profile opens the same settings screen. So do the owner-only prompts on the page, such as Add a bio, which jump straight to that field.

Change as many fields as you like, then click Save Changes in the bar that slides up at the bottom. One save covers the whole screen, including My Work.

  • Personal: your Profile picture (also your avatar across Prewrite), Pen name, Title, Tagline, and contact details. Leave Pen name empty and saving fills it with your first and last name.
  • About me: your Bio, Awards & Accomplishments, Favorite genres and Why I'm here.
  • Connect: your social accounts and web page.

The settings window's other screens are explained in Account Settings.

Make Your Public Profile Visible

While your profile is hidden, only you can see it. There are two places to make it visible.

In your settings, where you can also choose a custom URL:

  1. Open Settings › Public Profile (see above).
  2. Under Profile settings, type a Custom URL, something short and memorable. It needs 3 to 30 letters, numbers or - _ ~ ., and Prewrite checks that no one else has it.
  3. Turn on the Visibility switch. It reads Your profile is visible.
  4. Click Save Changes.

View public profile, at the top right, opens the page.

On the profile page, a banner above the page, which only you see, shows whether it's Public or Private. Click that chip to switch; it saves at once. The banner also has Copy link, a Share button on devices that can share, and Edit profile.

While your profile is hidden, anyone else who opens its link is told the profile wasn't found.

Add Stories to Your Profile

  1. Open Settings › Public Profile and scroll down to My Work.
  2. Click Add story. A list of the stories you own opens.
  3. Tick each story you want to show. The list stays open, so you can tick several; untick one to take it off.
  1. Drag the stories by their handles to put them in order. The first is your profile's Featured story. The × on a row removes it.
  2. Click Save Changes.

💡 Note

Adding a story to your profile makes it Shareable: anyone with its link can view it. Only stories you own can be added, and stories locked by your plan don't appear in the list.

Show Your Bio on a Story

A story can show its writer on its Home view, in a Written By section. It's a feature the story's owner can add in Advanced Settings if the template doesn't have it.

As the owner, you'll see a switch under Written By:

  • Bio Hidden: other readers don't see the section.
  • Bio Included: the section shows your picture, pen name, title and bio from your profile. Readers see it once you have a pen name. It also shows you an Edit Profile link, which opens your profile settings.
