# About Features

# What is a Feature?

A Feature allows you to add content to your story, and display it in one or more views.

For example, the Body feature provides an input field for adding text content to scenes, which is then displayed in the Timeline, Cards, Page, and Slideshow views.

Prewrite comes with a number of built-in Features you can add, remove and customize to fit your storytelling needs.

You can also create your own features from scratch, giving you full control over how you edit and present your work.

# Managing Features

Features can be created, added, removed and customized in the Layouts tab of the Advanced Settings window, accessible from the main dropdown in the Story View. There you'll find an intuitive drag-and-drop interface for managing your Features.

Though you manage features in the context of where they appear in your project, they should really be thought of as belonging to one of three types of content: Story, Scene or Character.

Don't dwell too much on this classification - we only mention it because this is how we categorize them in this knowledge base. Please read on to learn more about each built-in Prewrite Feature in detail.
