The Importance of Storytelling

Everybody likes to talk about the importance of a good story. Experts say it’s the secret to improving everything from a blog article to a screenplay; whether we’re giving a wedding toast or a sales pitch, we’re all supposed to be telling a story, because story makes everything better. And it’s true, it does. And it’s also more important than ever.

The average person spends more than 7 hours a day consuming digital media. Most of which is telling a story, and there are more platforms than ever before to share our stories, and anyone can do it.

But here’s what the experts won’t say. Story is actually hard. The principles of great storytelling seem easy because they’re so familiar to us, we see them everywhere, but they actually take a lifetime to master.

You can read countless books, go on The Hero’s Journey, learn how to Save the Cat, or take it all the way back to Aristotle and his Three Acts. But at the end of the day, when it’s time to get creative, this is what you’ll be staring down...

Not very inspiring is it?

And you’ll have no clue how to apply everything you just learned about crafting a great story to this blank page. No way to develop characters, themes, storylines. No way to track emotion or timing. Professional writers track these things using very basic tools like note cards and whiteboards, but they’re still relying on instincts that took years to develop.

Well, we want everybody to be able to tell their stories and we want them to do it today, not years from now, and you don’t have to be a great writer to be a great storyteller. And that’s why we created Prewrite.

Imagine a writing app that removes the idea of a blank page altogether and instead guides you in developing your idea, one piece at a time, using images and charts that can show you, at a glance, whether or not your story is working. This is what Prewrite was designed to do, and has done for thousands of our users.

We launched back in early 2020 and have since fostered a vibrant community of users that not only love the app, but love helping us make it better. And they’re not all beginners either — creators of all types at some of the biggest companies use Prewrite to develop screenplays, tv shows, podcasts, web series, courses, and sales materials. Anything that needs a solid story behind it should begin with Prewrite.

Our product is becoming the premier tool for the storytellers of tomorrow and we want you to be a part of our success.
